Just a quick thought on our sensitive society

How is it that we as a society have become so sensitive? Whether it is the James Harrison:Confessions of an NFL Hitman in the latest issue of Men's Journal (http://www.mensjournal.com/jamesharrison) or the fact that "Pearl Harbor" and "World War II" are trending on Twitter after the USA lost to Japan in the Women's World Cup, just about everyone is offended in some way... Even me. I am offended on how sensitive people have become.

We (The United States) lost an on field battle to the Japanese team in the Gold Medal game of the World Cup. The first thing people, my self included (I put a WWII reference tweet before the game was even over), think of is humor in regards to WWII. Why you may ask? We all know the history between the USA and Japan in WWII, there is no need to rehash that piece of world history. But for the uneducated, Japan really laid one on us with the attack on Pearl Harbor... Thus that is the last time that we recall in regards to Japan defeating the USA since we really do not compete against one another in major sporting  events often. LET ME BE CLEAR PEOPLE... THESE ARE JOKES! Not any different than how various comedians make a living. Comedians make JOKES to generate laughs, there should be nothing personal taken by these jokes by any race or creed. You can tell when someone's words are malicious... jokes are not meant to be taken that way. From what I have seen on twitter, there is nothing but references to WWII and Pearl Harbor, I have not seen any racially laced attacks on the people of Japan or of Japanese heritage.
Something else that has gotten under my skin lately is how up in arms people are over the James Harrison article in this months edition of Men's Journal. He is on the cover holding a hand gun in each hand with his arms crossed. I believe in is a homage to the "Hitman" video game. It could also be in reference to the name of the article "Confessions of an NFL Hitman". When I think of the word hitman, I think of a gunman... people that utilize guns, hence this might be why this is the cover photograph. Also, I do not think it would be appropriate to show him in his NFL uniform laying someone out while the league has locked its players out. Back to the cover, people in their over sensitization think that the photograph is promoting gun violence. No where in the article does it mention that he wants to shoot anyone. He does use a gay slur that just about any man has used while in the midst of locker room humor, and he may come across like a uneducated, irrational thug in the article... but I do not need to be over traumatic over the cover of the magazine and its alleged promotion of gun violence. I have a lot more to say overall on this article, but that is another story for another time.
Lighten up America and laugh, not everything said is an attack on someone's race, religion, sexual preference, yada yada yada. We like to joke around! I cannot wait to hear the responses from activists that will say that I've never suffered through any of this... They have no clue about what I have and have not dealt with. Toughen up!

PS... FUCK YOU PETA! (That was just to make sure I included them also so they do not feel slighted or left out)
